Lionel advertised last year to issue repacement trucks to convert their cylindrical hopper cars to Hi Rail wheels from "Scale"
Has anyone heard if they are going ahead with these conversion trucks?

I know high-rail trucks were offered in the last AF catalog. I wouldn't think they are issuing them to purchasers with the weird scale wheels.
Somebody here mentioned a while ago they bought the hopper's replacement trucks from Charles Ro.

The hi-rail truck sets are generally available.

Thanks guys for the helpful comments
BOB, you say the conversion trucks are readily available - I have had an order in to Scenery unlimited for some months now and they say they have no date from Lionel for expected delivery. The model 6-49081 is what I'm after and thats the one you discuss in the website you directed me to.
I also see that Lionel will send free replacements upon providing a receipt. Do you know if the free replacements are coupers only or are they the whole truck assembly?
If Lionel wont supply free (or if I can't find my receipt!) are they available elsewhere? RUSTY - I don't know - who is Charles Ro? - Thanks
Mark - Thank you - I've bookmarked Charles Ro - Never dealt with them before. I will keep an eye out for stock there and elsewhere.
I kinda thought from the previous discussion the free replacement from Lionel only applied to the couplers but it is nice to have that confirmed.
Ted,
Nicholas Smith Trains (in Philadelphia) has the 6-49081 roller bearing trucks listed for $18.49 on their web site. Look under American Flyer. They had a reasonable supply of the trucks when I was there over the holidays. Hope this helps.

Bob, I contacted Nicholas Smith and placed an order with them. Thanks for your help
FYI I was just browsing the Port Lines site and on the home page under "UPDATES" Doug mentions that the Lionel replacement hi-rail trucks for the first-run cylindrical hoppers are in. This was of Dec. 19.

I found this post and wondered if you had seen an alternative to waiting for Lionel.
The shortening of the axle needs to be .035 to .040 of an inch rather than the .025 stated originally.
I tried it from the OGR forum site, when I clicked the document it down loaded and I was able to open it. It is a word document and my computer is quite old, I don't know if that could have anything to do with difficulty opening it. I am still running XP, if you would like I can scan and send as an attachment to your email.

I am trying to add attachments again.
