No, it wasn't "Warren B."
In fact, it was recently announced on the Trains Magazine Newswire, that "the third party" behind the 4014 project has backed out! The fact that virtually nothing has really transpired since the "official announcement" was made concerning the restoration of 4014, and since about 9 months have passed, the "third party" reportedly got "fed up" and backed out.
Plus, 4014 is STILL sitting in the West Colton Yard.
Uh oh, guess we may not end up "eating crow" after all.
I think UP is covering this since it's their locomotive now. They approached the Locomotive Preservation Society and purchased it (plus a nice trade in) for the specific purpose of having a third locomotive in their steam program. One issue holding it in Colton is the weather. Moving it before spring is well under way would complicate things.

Well, since the other two steam locomotives in "their steam program" don't operate either, I suppose 4014 fits right in.
I guess it is conspiracy theory time now
Was there ever a third party?
Was it all a ruse for UP to get 4014 back again?
Was the third party UP all the time?
Has the museum been been stitched up?
Will 4014 be consigned to a corner to collect dust and not accessible to the public now?
Maybe it was an elaborate plot involving Lionel to market the VL bigboy

Lets see...3 inoperable locomotives....and what 10-12 guys?....Notta problem...

No, they don't have that many guys on the payroll.
Uh boy.....makes one wonder just how they plan to accomplish all this.

Easy. Contractors. Problem: Money. Solution: Third party pays for the contractors. Problem: No third party. Will UP eat the cost of the contractors?
I'd like to know just what contractors are going to be called since the UP no longer has business ties with Wasatch. Money??...no...the UP has money.

Since you don't understand the current management situation on the UP Steam Crew, there currently is NO "outside contractor" that is QUALIFIED & EXPERIENCED on steam locomotive boilers, that will have anything to do with the current UP manager, nor would he make any attempt to discuss the project with any of them.
