DCC is "gauge agnostic" to use a phrase from an earlier thread. You just have to find a suitable decoder...which are typically rated in Amps of DC-motor drive capability which can be a bit off-putting to the O-gauge crowd. While commonly associated with HO, after-market DCC decoders are commonly used for larger G-arden gauge engines so the electrical capability to drive O-gauge motors is definitely out there.
A possible hassle is finding an off-the-shelf decoder to control non-motor functions under DCC if your engine has them...lighting, synchronized smoke/sound, etc..
