I have a Lionel Pennsylvania TMCC crane and boom tender. The sounds in the boom tender work fine, but the crane is dead. I think this has happened before, and I think someone here helped me get this crane working again, but I can't remember how. I've read through the manual again, but she's still dead. I use Legacy on my layout. I haven't used the crane in some time, so it's been on an insulated siding with no power to it. Yesterday I went to address it (with power to the track on full), but the crane didn't respond. The sounds in the boom tender work fine. I've tried to reprogram the number with the remote, but still no response from the crane. I think something like "crane" used to pop up in the display before, but now it doesn't.  Does anyone know of some kind of "trick" to get this crane working again?

Sam,

I had the same situation happen to me. I brought my TMCC crane to a layout using Legacy. I believe you have to address the crane a certain way in the Legacy environment. We didn't do so with mine and now I get no response from it at all using Legacy or TMCC. It was working perfectly on my layout using TMCC beforehand. I've tried reprogramming but no help.

Good luck and make sure you address the crane properly. I don't want you to have the same issue I had.

First off, did you confirm that you have the correct TMCC address and that the Legacy CAB2 isn't addressing the crane as a Legacy device?  You have to be in TMCC mode to address the crane.  In order to get the crane keypad, you have to select the proper type.

Press Info.

Press Scroll

Press the right hand soft-key until you see CRN, press that softkey.

Press Scroll again

Make sure you have selected TMCC mode

Press Info to exit.
