While browsing for 1/50 (and also HO) diecast Caterpillar construction vehicles, I was becoming concerned about the dwindling inventory of Norscot and Tonkin products. (Such as 3000 Toys listing all remaining products as "retired item .... available only while supplies last.")

Happily, I discovered that its just the licensing that is changing ... Diecast Masters will be running the whole operation themselves now .... and distribution will resume shortly.

These vehicles are great when up-close detail is important.

NEW CATERPILLAR SCALE MODEL LICENSEE

Caterpillar Inc. is pleased to announce Diecast Masters Company Limited (Diecast Masters), as their new scale model licensee, effective August 21, 2015, replacing both Norscot and Tonkin Replicas.

Although new to the program as a licensee, Diecast Masters management has a rich history of brand and product development for Caterpillar, spanning 26 years. Specific to scale models, Diecast Masters owners and managers have been involved in manu...facturing and distributing Cat diecast for more than 14 years.

The focus of Diecast Masters’ business will be 1:50 scale model replicas, although 1:87 and other scales of models will also play important roles within their Cat scale model line. Production will commence immediately with some models available through a worldwide distributor network before the end of 2015.

Keep an eye out for the latest exciting Cat diecast model releases from Diecast Masters.

Notice the MSRP advertised for the Diecast Masters Company "CAT" models as shown on their website. These appear to be very detailed models similar to the Norscot brand.

Ertl/Tomy produce various John Deere construction models in 1:50 scale.

The Ertl Prestige and Norscot line of models are a good value and have nice features. My favorites are the Ertl/Tomy John Deere 200C excavator and 850K track type dozer that make good flatcar loads at a very reasonable price.

I was concerned, too.

I'm in the planning stages of a little HO thing that will have a whole gaggle of modern 1/87 Cat equipment. I thought that perhaps I should start buying them now, before prices starting spiking.

Good news that it is just a temporary thing, while management changes are made.

I certainly hope they are, and I'm going to write the new management stating so.

I would certainly buy some ... if they're finely detailed.

There is no need for concern, Diecast Masters will be producing a wide range of current and popular Cat models with availability beginning in early 2016.  The initial releases will be based off the Norscot and Tonkin Replicas Cat models with several touch-ups and refinements to the tooling.  As the year progresses there will be a number of completely new models released as well.  The site mentioned above will have all of them available as soon as they are officially announced.
