Does anyone know if the body shells (engine and tender) from the Kinlet Hall Locomotive (Shakespeare Express set) could be swapped onto a new(er) Hogwarts locomotive? I would like to update from conventional to Lionchief control and am hoping that might be an easy way to do so.

I think you are on the right track, but can't tell you "yes" for certain. It would seem that the die cast shell on the units you mention would have remained the same over the years. I don't know if anyone other than a Lionel repair person could provide a definitive answer.
My sense is yes, but I haven't actually tried it. There could be some adjustments for shell lighting, but I can't imagine the shell itself wouldn't fit.
