Hi Jeff,
there are others on this forum who can answer this question much better than I but I'll try my best for you.
I have some photos of my phone of a few of my Js and shown here are from left to right are N&W 608 (2004), N&W 613 (2008), and N&W 611 Spirit of Roanoke (2016).
There are a few differences in between the 2008 and 2016 versions - most noticeably LED lights on the 2016 model, correct bell placement (should be under the fireman's side steps and not on top of the boiler for the later generation of Js (note 2004 and 2008 have the bell on top of the boiler)), And I found the sounds to be much better in the PS3 version than the PS2 - probably better speakers allowing more bass to the "chuff."
Other than that I say they are similar in most other respects - one thing that annoys me though is that MTH continues to put a brass builders plate on their Js when in fact the Js had chrome builders plate. Only 611 wore a brass plate from 1982-1994 in service and when she was restored to present she now once again wears a proper chrome builder's plate. (The orginal disappeared many many years ago).
Like I said, there are other folks here much more knowledgeable than I on the subject.
