I've searched but can't find the straight answer.  I'm replacing fastrack with gargraves and Ross switches and was trying to figure out how I could control the switches with my TMCC (then eventually Legacy) system. Do the DZ-1000 motors work with the CSM2 & breakout boards or do I need to get DZ-2500 motors?

If just read the 1000 were more reliable then the 2500,not to mention also cheaper.

The CSM2 needs a signal that tells it when the switch is in one position, if that isn't active, it assumes it's in the other position.  Not sure you can do that with the DZ-1000, but maybe. You might have to add some extra components to make the position sensing work.

The breakout boards are only for the DZ-2500, they won't be of any help with the DZ-1000.

You're right, the DZ-1000 is probably going to be more reliable than the DZ-2500, at least if my experience is any indication.

FYI, there are some 2500s on the for sale board at a good price.

Thanks Bob, that is part of the reason I'm trying to make the decision of which motor to go with.

If DZ1000 and CSM2 isn't an option, like @Ted S mentioned above is there another way to get the Dz-1000 motors to work with TMCC / Legacy? If not I'll look to go with DZ2500s.

It's not a problem to get the DZ-1000 to work with Legacy/TMCC, just use one of the Lionel switch controllers.  I use the old Lionel SC2 on my layout, it handles six switches.  The LCS ASC2 will handle four switches.

The LCS ST M2 will monitor the positions of up to 16 switches.  However, for the DZ-1000, it may have to be configured in two-wire mode and will monitor 8 switches.

My layout has a combibation of Ross and Lionel 022 switches. The Ross are DZ 1000s. I use 2 CSM2s for the DZ1000s  and SC2s for the 7 Lionel 022s. I also installed and wired the factory controller's for both brands. Both work great with TMCC and Legacy controllers as well as LCS. I am not using breakout boards or LCS STMs.

Thanks you, I didn't think the SC2s were an option so I hadn't considered that.

@Santa Fe Jim you were able to get the CMS2 to work with the DZ1000s? Did you do anything specific to get them to work?
