With the number of people canceling and making sets available there is a risk there may not be sufficient reservations for a second run. Just be warned.
The average cancellation / no show rate for any projects we have brought in is about 10-15%. So I don't see anything unusual here. People have all sorts of reasons to drop their order and we totally understand. We are trying to arrange for a rerun at the factory, but it has not been negotiated yet. Nothing is a sure thing, customer orders or 2nd runs. That's why we don't require deposits.

That was the biggest reason I took delivery of a first-run 8-car set when I was notified one became available. At this point I still have an RPO, extra lounge and 2 extra regular coaches "on standby", which I'm currently thinking will be fulfilled thru the second production run. And if I had to priortize, I'd rank the RPO as the ala carte car I'd most like to have.
If an RPO becomes available out of the first production run, I'd certainly grab it. The other "extra cars" on stand-by are pretty much icing on the cake for me. And if for some reason a second production run doesn't materialize, them's the breaks as they say. Life will go on. Although I'd feel bad for folks who were hoping to get a basic 8-car set from the second production run if that doesn't come to fruition.

In my opinion... After more people have a chance to see tha El Capitan the demand could very weii go up. Many people do not like to buy sight unseen.
So sit back, let this train make the rounds at various train shows and we will see what happens.

So the question is, are the the cancellation/no show sets otherwise sold yet? My assumption would be they are but, if one or more sets sits around unsold...
I got my shipment yesterday. This is my first Golden Gate Depot passenger set & it like it a lot. I plan to add Kadee couplers to them soon. Later I plan to buy & add more passenger figures to the cars. I would like to get the advice of hobbyists who have bought prior passenger cars from Golden Gate Depot. How easy is it to open the cars to install more passenger figures? I did not see any instructions that came with the cars explaining this procedure. Also what brand/ type of glue are recommended for securing the figures to the seats?

Have you unpacked all the cars, and found out what the "rattle" sound was from?
Yes, a loose seat was rattling aroung in one of the coaches. A small drop of glue fixed it.
It appears that the seats are painted different colors and then applied to the interiors individually and not part of a single mold like other manufacturers.
Glad to hear Jim that this was a very simple fix. Enjoy this fabulous set, you have waited a long time for it.
I can't wait to put my MTH Santa Fe FP-45s in front of these beauties and run the full train!
First of all CONGRATS JIM!! I know how excited you are to receive your set.. the offer to borrow the F units is there if you want.. I just want to watch it run.
Second I am a little confused... again ... this is the first time I have ordered from Scott and GGD so I am unfamiliar with the process. I placed my order for the second run as soon as it was announced and got a confirmation for an 8 car set and various extras. Now as I understand the thread there might not be a second run??
So if I am not high enough on the list for a cancelled set I may be SOL?

Yesterday I picked up some Kadee couplers for my cars from Caboose Stop Hobbies at the annual Galesburg Railroad Days & added them to the cars that I had unpacked so far. I like it that these cars have 2 sets of holes that allow the couplers to be spaced out to negotiate tighter curves or recessed to have the diaphragms touching.
These are just my opinion,

But I have read about hobbyists experiencing electrical shorts with Kadee couplers with metal draft gear boxes on metal cars (diecast or brass) on these forums, but I have not experienced it so far on any of my conversions. If I experience shorts with these Hi-Levels, I will get the 817 plastic draft gear boxes from Kadee.

That only applies to 2-Rail SCALE operations. With 3-Rail, there is no power in either of the outside rails, as there is with DC electrical power in the 2-Rail operations. However, if the "air hose" thing on the metal Kadee couplers hangs too low and contacts the middle, hot, rail, then a short could be created.

The simulated metal air hose on the newer 740 are pre-bent & clear the top of the rail by a few mm, unlike the older 805 required these metal wires to be bent before installing it.

I am afraid that is a luxury only offered on the 2-rail cars. No such holes on my cars.

I'm pretty sure that those Kadee mounting brackets are available from Sunset/3rd Rail/GGD for those 3-Rail SCALE modelers that desire to remove the big couplers and mount Kadee couplers. I know those brackets were available when the SP Daylight train sets came out, but I elected to stay with the big couplers since the cars couple so nice and close together anyway, it simply wasn't worth damaging the beautiful paint job in order to make the conversion.
I'm totally blown away by these cars. GGD's best offering yet!

Kadee handled that in the 700 series. The 745's come with the plastic draft boxes.
