Electrical Help! ZW diodes 1N1190AR or 1N1190RA?

While going through all the information one can gather on this forum there seems to be some confusion on what diode to use in rebuilding a KW, ZW transformers.

Seems like the 1N1190AR is recommended by some which is a case to anode diode then when you watch Jim Barrett's video he recommends a NTE5991 anode to case diode which would be a 1N1190RA (lower voltage) 600 volts vs 400 volts.

Looking over the forum info looks like both would work for postwar tender whistles but if you install a 1N1190AR in your ZW and blow the whistle button and you are using modern whistle you will get the bell instead of the whistle.

So which one is it?

Anode to case or case to anode are the same thing. What you don't want is cathode to case. Cathode to case is more common and easier to find. Allelectronics.com stopped carrying stud mounted diodes so I switched to an 1N1186RA which I ordered from a surplus company out of Florida on eBay. 

Probably as small as 100v 10 amps is adequate. It's the 1/4" diameter stud that makes this stud style work well in postwar zw vw or kw transformers. In the kw I install the diode facing in, bend the solder terminal and then using a small short screw lock washer and nut to bolt the bent connector to the brass bendable strip with the hole in the end. Bend so that the roller arm clears the end of the diode.
