Since getting my 3rd Rail E8, I've become curious as to what the appropriate color scheme for the Erie would be on the motive power. There's always the black & yellow, which is simple enough, but there seems to be two competing descriptions of the green passenger scheme:

- two tone green, with a dark green embellished with a lighter green

- dark green and cream

The two real-life examples I am aware of, the restored E8 currently in Port Jervis, and the NS Heritage unit which was based on research, each represent one of the color schemes. Looking at historical photos doesn't help much either, since I've seen both floating around. Did the Erie actually have two different authoritative color schemes for the dozen years that the green paint scheme existed (originated with the Alco PAs in 1948, and would be replaced with the EL merger) existed, or is there some type of rational for the discrepancy?

This might just be enough to get me to track down the appropriate historical society (quick web search would seem to indicate this would be the Erie Lackawanna Historical Society), but I thought I'd check here since I'm already engaged with this forum...

You probably will have to contact the Erie - Lackawanna Historical Society, and ask them specifically. I quick Google revealed that they seem to have a pretty nice website. I remember taking photographs (some in color) of some of the Erie passenger units, both EMD E Units and ALCO PA Units, in Hoboken Terminal, back in the mid to late 1950s, and do remember the two-tone green scheme.
