I have not run my trains much this summer, but we discovered my grandson likes to watch the trains run so we use Face Time on our iPhones.  I get 3 trains(2 pass and 1 12 car freight)running at one time on my 6x11 carpet central.  While I run the trains using DCS, my wife holds the iPhone and moves around the layout and changes phone elevation and angles.   My grandson will watch for at least 10 minutes before he is on to something else. He is two.

So if you can't have your grandkids present very much, using Face Time on your phone is a really good way for them to stay interested in trains.  His first words when his mother calls us is "trains, trains".

How many of you use Face Time to connect your grandkids to trains?

We can have ours present often and do. But, we still Facetime nearly everyday. can't get enough of the littles. The grandson, now 3, always wants to see the Cranky (the Crane) on the layout to check that Thomas, Cranky and the Polar Express are in good order.

As his attention span has grown, his train running episodes last longer and longer and at least 2 sessions per visit.

I wasn't an Apple guy, but FaceTime is so easy, we had to get an iPad. They don't know how to converse on a phone(voice) call, they need a video call!
