Lionel diesels I would love to see included is a option to switch out the swinging pilot for a fixed pilot with Kadee mounts.  Like what AtlasO and 3rdrail offer.  I'd have more diesels if they did.  I have no interested in modify my diesels like others have.

For that matter would love to see the without major modification the option to add Kadee to the front of steamers and tenders.

Any other features not yet on Lionel products you would love to see?

I have a few ideas. Here they are:

-Better Crewtalk similar to MTH DCS/PS3

-Sand fill and application features with accompanying sounds

-Dynamic brake feature with sound

-A new Universal Legacy System with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi built in

-Road name- and road number-specific Crewtalk/Towercomm (TMCC engines, Vision Line engines, and older Legacy engines had this)

-Sensor Track sensors on LC+2.0 Locos

-Some improvements to the LCS App:

-DCS App-style speed control

-Numerical keypad for addressing

-Quilling whistle/horn

-An I-Cab App improvement: DCS App-style speed control

Smart smoke units.  One that would turn off before burning up the batting and providing a signal (light flashing sequence) that warned you it is time to fill it back up.  I've had enough of underfill/overfill and all that comes with it.

This is a good idea - but what I'd like to add is this - what if the locomotive were to have an actual reservoir from which the smoke unit could draw from.  This would eliminate the need to constantly refill the unit after running for a short while.

The reservoir could be contained within the tender and drawn into the locomotive via a small hose.  Then those of you who have the operating Lionel Water tower would fill the tender instead of the smoke stack.

One thing everyone seems to miss is that the crew talk is not at all close to the proper vernacular for the times.  They never said "copy that" in the 1940's.  I even question the use of "roger...".       There are other parts of the crew talk that were not used in the 1930's, 40's or 50's.  A simpleton could figure this one out.  This said, I would like to see crew talk etc., at least as good as MTH has in their products.  Like many other things, their talk blows away the Lionel version.

One other feature (two in one) I would like to see are scale couplers on everything.  The cars are scale, lets get the couplers fixed!  Coupled to this would be accurately sized scale wheels, even if they had to have large flanges.  When Dick Maddox was at Atlas, I tested a few two rail scale truck added to some three rail pieces of rolling stock.  If the car was properly weighted, it did not derail on any of the available three rail tracks of that time era.

I believe my second wish list feature is LONG overdue!

I would like a $50 box that would be controlled by the universal LionChief control and operate track power, whistle. and bell for a single conventional engine. The center shift button would control direction.

I would like a second $50 box that would connect all my expensive Lionel Fastrack switches to a computer for LionChief customers.

And... I would like more LionChief Plus+ engines that are a little less expensive and have less electronics than 2.0

Hey John,

Look into an Arduino with a relay shield to do what you want with the switches.  All the code to do what you are asking is probably already in the public domain.  Lots of sites provide Arduino listings for tons of relatively simple applications.  An Arduino and relay shield might cost under $40.00.  You already have a PC, and the Arduino software is free downloads.

Do a little leg work, and take your mind off things that you, as an individual, cannot control or change.
