This item from the NY Transit Museum popped up in Facebook today... 

"#OnThisDay in 1968, the Pennsylvania and New York Central railroads merged into the Penn Central Transportation Company". Happy anniversary Penn Central. Hard to believe it's been almost 50 years.

The New York Central was a Hill Line like the Burlington, Great Northern, Northern Pacific, so it makes no sense that a merger with other railroads took place.

What are you talking about?  The New York Central had nothing to do with the Hill lines.  It was owned by the Vanderbilt's for many years.
