Rich- Just an FYI

After updating my log in last week, I had to log into the Forum again this morning. Never had to under the old domain name. Not a big deal but thought you should let Crowdstack know.

This has nothing to do with Crowdstack. This is/was a DNS (Domain Name Server) change. We've not made any further DNS changes, so things should be back to normal once you log in again.

Aah-Ha! makes sense. I'm on my work computer which I just logged into again this morning.

Thanks

I visit the forum throughout the day on my work computer. Unfortunately for me with the DNS change now OGR is blocked on my work computer. Nothing to do with OGR. Something just triggered my work computer to now block it like a lot of other sites. O well, guess I'm back to using a cell phone at work to view the forum.

But think of how much more productive you can be now........

I think this will correct itself once Norton decides this forum is not actually “suspicious.” Currently they rate “ogrforum.com” as a suspicious domain, and unfortunately they are notoriously slow about fixing things like this.

If your work computer network is “protected” by Norton, that’s likely why this happened.

I'm running Norton at home and this manifests as flagging the forum in emails.  When I get an email from the forum all links are red and if I want to click on a thread, when I mouse over a link I get a pop up calling it suspicious - very annoying.  However, Norton does not stop me from calling up the forum or logging in.  Of course B rad's IT department may have set it up differently from home.

Bill

Hey Rich, thanks for that.

My work connections also currently block OGR.  Again, not an OGR issue.   Here's the message that pops up for me.

ogrblock

This is regardless of browser, and I have no setting that bypasses.

Luckily, I can bypass the work server log in for now, when I want to catch up with OGR.  Once I VPN back into work, OGR is blocked as above

I used to always Google search "ogaugerr forum". Now it either just brings up a random topic from an old post here or it brings up another train forum besides this one. This just started a couple days ago. I have to go to the random topic that pops up and then go to the directory to get back to the main topics page.

Since the URL changed, the old results in Google's search history don't bring you to the right place.

I have a shortcut on my desktop that has the URL: https://ogrforum.com/forum-directory, that's what I click on to get to the forum.

Why would you use Google to get here? That makes no sense. You don’t need to do a search to find this site.

Bookmark https://ogrforum.com in your browser and you’re done.

I’m more at odds with the strange “Reply with Quote” box. Seems like my reply is all in one box with the quote. Does seem to post ok though. . Both PC and iPhone. Only started this afternoon. See the picture.

Side effect of the ads?

Same thing that happens on my iPad too Marty, …..there’s no window to reply ….but when it posts, it looks correct, …..gonna be odd to add pics when replying with quote ….

So here is what it looks like when replying and how it is displayed...  And this happens on my iPhone a PC using Chrome and 2 using Firefox.  To be honest even when just posting without a quote seems to be off.

Just back to the ads for a second.  Some of them seem borderline inappropriate and irrelevant to the audience on this forum.  Not sure if they could be adjusted to be more targeted to the clientele.  Will there be a pay option to stop seeing the Ads?

Agreed. I’m not sure what’s behind the “Are you on Team Blonde or Team Brunette?” button, but I’m probably not giving it a click.

As to the pay option, ideally that’s what the current supporting member would be (especially if bundled with a digital subscription).

"More relevant ads" from GOOGLE based on the viewing group?  Probably not going to happen, because the ads you see are based on your search history and personal location.  I live in an area with a significant Hispanic population, and at least a third of the ads I see are written in Spanish.  Kind of useless for someone who doesn't speak the language, but still relevant to GOOGLE.

The ads should be a bit of a minor nuisance at best. On one of the other topics I just looked up the ad filled my phones entire screen. If I was on PC it wouldn't be that annoying. I can live with it though. I just figured I would point that out. Sure they may be a bit annoying, but as long as you can skirt around them, are they really that bad?

Therein lies the problem, unless/until they can figure a way to have only train related targeted ads.

The ads I've seen so far have absolutely nothing to do with trains.    I am also concerned about the ads that may not be suitable for this particular site, delving into more adult content (dating, etc..)

I know Rich is working on it.

Also as I type this in Firefox on PC, it is exhibiting the odd behavior that other have mentioned.

That's why I use a VPN and ad blockers.

Firefox on linux also has the odd behavior mentioned.
