Well, I finally got some real Lucas Red n Tacky gear grease many on OGR have mentioned. I got tired of messing with a screw driver trying to get the grease just on the gears. I had an old Cajun Injector from a garage sale. Cajun Injectors are real popular here in South Louisiana to inject spices in food like Turducken, a deboned chicken stuffed into a deboned duck, further stuffed into a deboned turkey. Food spice injectors are probably available everywhere.
I cut the tip at a 45 degree angle and it works great on putting a dap or what ever on the gear. The grease injector also allows the grease to be sucked up from the tube of grease with the metal tip off. Much neater than using a small putty knife, etc., to get it in the injector.
I have used a red grease called M 25, The Original Red Grease with Teflon, which is packed here in Baton Rouge. I was thinking the Lucas Red n Tacky would be thicker or higher viscosity and stick better to the gears. But both of the thin out and fly off the gears when running. I thought the old Lubriplate white grease from the 1940s and 50s was thicker and stayed on the gear better but it also dried out with age.
The hypodermic needle is what I use for oiling with synthetic oil. I got a couple from a nurse years ago when they could give the used ones away. It works great too.
The tray I keep them in, to keep things neater, is from a windshield wiper blade clear container. A couple of tips for what there are worth.
