A while back, I was looking around on YouTube and found a how to on someone who used greeting card sound systems to put sound on his layout. Well, I picked a couple up really cheap and was playing with it this afternoon. I just recorded audio of cows mooing that I found on YouTube. Not sure I’m “done” but I thought I was at a point to do a lil video.

Nice. How did you trigger the sound? Is there a battery that can be maintained?
I have a piece of cardboard under the track. Pressure from the train pushes the cardboard onto the button. It uses 2 batteries. Has a record and play button along with lil speaker. <$1 on eBay. It even came with the batteries. I just recorded a lil mooing and away I went. Now when the train goes past the farm the cows moo at the train
That is very cool. Thank you for the tip!

Found those modules on bay. Can get some with up to 30 seconds. I'm intrigued. Ordered several to play with.

The price was right. They should add a little interest
I have done something similar, though I have used some recording devices that I bought almost a decade ago. You can record any short sequence you want and can get it to playback by passing a magnet near it to trigger the sounds you recorded. Here are examples of the units and then a short video of how I implemented them on the layout.
