A while back, I was looking around on YouTube and found a how to on someone who used greeting card sound systems to put sound on his layout.  Well, I picked a couple up really cheap and was playing with it this afternoon.  I just recorded audio of cows mooing that  I found on YouTube.  Not sure I’m “done” but I thought I was at a point to do a lil video.

I have a piece of cardboard under the track.  Pressure from the train pushes the cardboard onto the button.  It uses 2 batteries.  Has a record and play button along with lil speaker.  <$1 on eBay.  It even came with the batteries.  I just recorded a lil mooing and away I went.  Now when the train goes past the farm the cows moo at the train

I have done something similar, though I have used some recording devices that I bought almost a decade agoIMG_2644. You can record any short sequence you want and can get it to playback by passing a magnet near it to trigger the sounds you recorded. Here are examples of the units and then a short video of how I implemented them on the layout.
