Happy Labor Day Everyone!

Being the son of a Teamster who also was a WWII  Navy vet, I am forever grateful for what my dad accomplished to provide for his family. So when I saw the new, recently made in USA, USA Navy tanker car at Tacoma Trains (advertiser in the OGR Dealer Roundhouse), I though this would be a great addition to my layout.  Its a very nice car, the trucks have springs for added detail.

I am thinking of getting the tank cars for the other military branches. These are all Made in the USA.

Please feel free to add pictures of your USA made cars!

U.S. made?  Might only include my scratch-built cars....I went to a lot of effort to

track down two Atlas creosote tank cars for my creosote plant, but I was in a shop

Saturday that I THINK had one by somebody else (I was afraid to buy it for I might

already have it).  It was yellow and one of the Atlas cars is yellow.  Did anybody else

(Lionel,MTH) make a creosote tank car?

I have the Navy boxcar and flatcar that were made at the same time as your tank car. I haven't ran them yet, so I'm afraid I have no pictures. I also have the Navy set from the '90s, which I assume is American made, along with an extra  (chinese made) submarine car:

When they announced they were going to make a handful of boxcars in the US in 2012 (?), I put my money where my mouth was and preordered all of them. Here's a picture of the first four President boxcars being pulled by a US made MPC era U36 and trailed by a US made MPC era caboose:

Of course, most of my layout is US made, as most of it is from the postwar and MPC era.

I have to many to post, so here is some of them that are on track now.

I have been buying Weaver since the 80's. The first ones where kits. Must have a couple hundred of them. Crown was also made in the states, Gargraves track and ross switches are made in USA. I also am a veteran and retired Teamster. Should I dare add 90% of my tools are american made and all my major appliances. American made motor vehicles also. My vacation money is spent in USA and Canada still haven't seen all this country.

I tried posting them again but something changed in my computer or at youtube Any way I can't get it to work. Or i'm just getting old and forgot

Hi John,  thanks for your service!  Yes, a number of parts are made outside the USA, but its assembled in the USA and thats a start.  This is not a low end car, its a step up over the other offerings in the recent catalog.  On this special day, I wanted to show everyone the extra details.

all the best,

I don't have pictures as I have not run them. I have all the President cars, and all the Recent Made in US Army cars.

I also have a new Weaver TOFC Army medical trailer and such items.

If it is made in the USA and fits my layout time I will strongly consider it.

Reason I don't buy all of them? Cash flow or lack thereof.

Most were, some weren't.  The die-cast sprung trucks on the higher-end freight cars that originated during the MPC-era were made in America at one point but were gradually outsourced to China by the LTI period.  The tinplate Classics line, the scale T-1, and the first releases of the Alco PA-1s were made in Korea by MTH (I think the scale S-2 was by MTH originally too, might be wrong on that).  I believe that the scale Mikados and Moutains were also imported.

I seem to recall that the traditionally-sized GG1 ended up going overseas when they created new tooling for it; I don't remember if that happened during the LTI or Lionel LLC period; someone may chime in and clarify that.

Some years ago when I visited my stepson at his Naval Base, I saw a line of old

single-dome tank cars parked near the pier.  They were painted silver with few

markings.  I assumed they held fuel until my stepson told me they unloaded

sewage from the ships.

I'm thinking that would make an interesting scene to model, LOL.

Imagine modeling a spill under one of the cars!
