In that most wonderful movie from 1971, Maude lived in an old passenger car. Does anybody have any info on the car and where it is today/
thanks,

The railcar scenes were filmed in Oyster Point California.
Here's a link to a picture from a fan site:
where it says:
"Maude's railcar house was filmed in South San Francisco on Oyster Point Boulevard
at Eccles Avenue, near the Cabot, Cabot, and Forbes Industrial Park."
If it's still there, it should show up on Google Maps.
(great movie, BTW)

That area has been so developed since the movie was made it looks nothing like it did. The car you are asking about is Western Pacific loung car #653. It was built in 1913 as a 16 section sleeper by Pullman and rebuilt in the 30's to a lounge car...it is currently at the Western Railway Museum....think they got it from the WP in the mid 60's and then it was used as Maudes' home.

Cool! And here's a little Quicktime video of the car from their web site:
Hmmm. That didn't seem to work. I inserted it as a quicktime movie, but
nothing comes up, and editing the post seems to change it to a flash movie.
Oh well, here's the link:

Mark,
The link doesn't go anywhere.

The link works for me, using Firefox as my browser. There's a blank screen for a
few seconds, and then the video starts. If you can't get that to work, just
go to http://www.wrm.org and use their link to the video on the Collection:
Large Artifacts page.

What is the auto in front of Maude's car? An E-Type Jaguar station wagon???
Yes, it was Harold's Jag, made to look like a hearse with an add-on over the trunk.
Ed Bommer
I always thought that thing was cool....odd...but cool.
Hard to recall now, but didn't Harold run that Jag/hearse over a cliff (without him inside) after Maude died?
Still for modeling fodder, its an idea for making an unusual thing out of a similar sports car. Hoowuddathunkit?
Ed Bommer
Yes, the Jag was destroyed at the end, sent over a cliff. And there was only one made, so they're gone forever. Be nice to sneak one of those on a layout somewhere (maybe next to the Deathmobile from Animal House)...

That would be a cool car to model....actually that scene from above would be pretty cool.
There was also a legit funeral coach - an S&S Cadillac Victoria, IIRC - Driven off a cliff into a lake.
