I have a mix of fight cars from mth, kline, lionel. The most I ever pulled was 47 boxcars.A railking mohawk with PS2.I also pulled the same train with a railking locosound Mohawk. So I was just thinking about how many lionel boxcars can one railking steam locomotive can pull?I talking about the notherns, mike berkshire hudsons. So any body got a story to tell.

My mth railking Mohawk  would walk away with that no problem. But after 41 cars I would have couplers start to pop open. From then on it was trying to find the right cars with strong couplers that would not pop open.It was trail and error but once I got things right. It was something to see a locomotive pulling a long string of boxcars.

Its tricky you have to spread the weight out more.To light up front right behind the locomotive.Train wreak to light in the middle is also bad idea. But heavy cars behind the locomotive and in the middle of the train not to light. Its always best to have the lighter cars at the end.But your right about couplers poping open.Oh track can come into play.I had my trains on the floor which had carpet.Over time the weight of the trains had press the carpet in to a low spot.Took me half friday night trying to fix the problem. After a while I got my hands on some small wood. And got that took care of the low spot.I used to be in ho.O gauge trains have more weight to them.
