Anyone have any info on Model 9 transformer. I found it in the garbage about 10 years ago. It is a 150watt single control transformer. Not a 9B. 5 terminals. 6-14 v, 14-22 v, 22-30 v, 7 v, 14 v and whistle control hook up. The transformer works. It has a jewel lens light and a circuit breaker. I can't find anythimg on the net. Not sure why they would produce a transformer with up to 30 volts unless it wasn't for running trains

I have transformers like this. It is prewar and literally bulletproof. Jefferson Electric (from Chicago) was providing transformers like this for American Flyer and selling them under their own brand too. Many are step transformers, this one is more advanced. Rather than designing transformers specifically for model trains, Jefferson (and American Flyer) just decided to use what was already in production for other purposes and put the American Flyer name on them. Some doorbell chimes, fire bells, furnaces, etc are 30V. I think Ives had a similar arrangement with Jefferson. Lionel ridiculed this practice in many of their catalogs because they offered purpose-built transformers made their own factory.

The first  responder is probably right.

Here's a photo of a Jefferson Transformer that looks like it could easily been altered in appearance for American Flyer sales.
