"HONGZ" stands for HO scale, N scale, G scale, and Z scale.

Post your non-O scale stuff here!

Our friend Jeff must reveling the glory of Christmas weekend so I thought I'd take it upon myself to start our photo thread for this weekend. I've managed to come up with a timely subject for today.

Until the early 80s, Two Guys was a discount department store with numerous locations in the northeast and mid Atlantic regions. Two Guys stores were known for having well stocked train departments with selections rivaling those which were found in many hobby shops. Each year beginning December 26th, Two Guys would hold its famous after Christmas sale during which some fabulous bargains could be had. Growing up during the 60s and 70s, I would usually take whatever Christmas money I received and spend it at the sale. Most scales and brands were carried with an emphasis on AHM, Bachmann, Life-Like, Lionel and Tyco. There was plenty from which to choose and we always walked away with a good haul. Unfortunately, Tow Guys went out of business in 1982 and that was the end of our big train sale.

Pictured below are some of the treasures acquired during those sales. With the price tag still affixed the boxes, they are a real time capsule of our hobby's past. I don't run these pieces. I just keep them for posterity.

Great info on the past and some great deals even for that time period. Thanks for posting the photos and story Bob.

Nothing new from me as my latest purchase has not arrived yet. Below are trains that I have already shown. I have two trains running on the mainline and one freight stopped at the train station. I have a power on/off switch by the station, so I can park one train there if I want.

Hi, Jonny. Merry Christmas.

How do you like that Seaboard S-2?

Bob

Merry Christmas to you too Bob.  I hope you enjoyed it.

The Seaboard engine is not bad, but as I said before does not compare with the smoothness of a Kato. I had ordered a Kato RS-3 from someone on Ebay with Seaboard road name, but it arrived in not working condition, so it was returned to the seller.  I decided to try this S2 out instead as it looked different than anything I have. The problem with this type engine is there is that design flaw of the gears possibly getting stripped over a period of time and then the engine can make a clicking noise and start slipping. So far things are ok with this one and I am still happy that I bought it. Time will tell how well it works.

Jonny:

N scale Seaboard Air Line units have been offered by several manufacturers. Below, I've posted below pictures of a number of them. They're not my mine; I took them from current eBay listings. There are more models available in SAL but I thought I'd post pictures of a few to give you an idea of what's out there in terms of alternatives to the Arnold S-2. I wanted to show pictures which include the boxes to aid in identification for you.

Best,

Bob

Here are a couple pics of the G Scale loop we have under our tree this year.  The train running is the Snoopy set by Lionel, purchased this year from Ollie's.  I also added the PRR and Barnes & Noble Lionel G boxcars to the run!

The church building is a gift box found at Dollar Tree, and the bakery is a chocolate chip cookie tin found at HomeGoods!  These work perfectly for the G Gauge!  I'm going to head back to HomeGoods and get another one of the buildings so I can make a small village.  BTW, the cookies from the tin go perfectly with Earl Grey!
