How Do I save this numberboard?

Personally, I wouldn't touch it. The patina it has will be lost if you seal it. Just hang it on the wall and admire it for what it is.

However, if you want to go that route, you can buy clear gloss or matte enamel spray paint at any hardware store.

Another option would be to build a frame-like case and enclose it behind glass (the glass will protect it from air flow and keep flowing air from picking at the paint).

Depending on what is causing the deterioration (UV light, humidity, oxidation, etc.), other things could be done within a case to further protect it without actually treating the numberboard itself.

A framed case is a good idea. I built the box from oak, and had Michael's custom-maike the frame w/ plexiglass front to fit.

. The frame is hinged at the top for access.

Is that from a CR GP40?

I suggest you put matte black paper or felt behind the areas where the black has worn off. That will improve the appearance without affecting the value. You could put white behind the numbers.
