The short answer for my 13 engines is power blocks
The long answer is
I'm 56,and got back into this about 14 year's ago, probably for the same reason most of us did, related to their childhood year's.
Well,my first engine was a MTH PS1 conrail that my Mom bought me when we went to a greenburgs show together.
Now she's gone,so that engine has a special meaning in itself.
But, almost every one of the following engine's are from my wife, for either a Christmas present,or birthday.
My layout is in my attic, and is open to all,but probably like alot of yous, almost all of friend's or relative's,could not care less.
I'll go up on a Saturday afternoon, have a beer, and dream what I'll be doing next.
Anyway,My elevated section has a siding on the back,so there's 2 trains or engines, and if I have to,to move stuff around on the bottom,I have the left and right divided into 2 blocks
Now on the bottom, here's what I have
Here, where the Sante Fe is I can park 3 engines
Over on this side, the first siding can hold 4 engine's
The next siding, can hold 3,the there is 3 single powerblock siding's that can hold 1 each,
The last siding can hold 3
The siding on the mainline on the wall can hold 4.
If I have to,my reverser track can hold 1
And another side track can hold 1
So there's the long answer to how I store and run multiple engine's
My newest engine my wife gave me for this Christmas, she over rode every suprise tactic she used in the past Christmas's
It was a MTH Railking BNSF Dash 8 with PS-3
So now this engine.like all my other's has a special meaning.
So what started out for me in this hobby, has turned into something else.
The memories I'll have of my life of trains, the one;s I'll cherish ,I'm living right now.
If I had a handful of thing;s I could only take with me to cherish,it would not be any of my postwar stuff from my childhood.
It would be some of the piece's I have received in the last 14 or year's
The End
