Gentlemen,

I, too, thought of drilling 2 holes to accept the grab iron but was unsure of the adhesive.  I thought of CA and a small dab of epoxy but did not think of Loctite.

MWB:  Why Goo and then CA?

Old Goat:  If I had access to the interior, I could use a dab of epoxy on the inside and it would not be seen.  The engine is all brass.  I plan to paint the area after installation.  Yes, a spacer is a good suggestion.

Thanks to all,

Ed

Something about the combination of a VERY small amount of thin CA, touched to good old Walthers GOO, makes the GOO harden INSTANTLY, and you'll never get the two items apart without breaking something. I don't know why the two adhesives chemically react that way, but it sure works good!!!

Yes, the combination of 2 is extremely potent and very difficult to separate.  It is also quite rapid.  This combination is also very useful for joining 2 dissimilar surfaces particularly if one is porous, putting the Goo on that surface.

I had a paragraph on this in one of my articles in OST - the schoolhouse structure a few months back, I think.  I would hypothesize that there is a chemical interaction co-polymerizaton between the Goo solvent (acetone) and CA that also traps the contact rubber cement within that matrix.  The combination of the 2 adhesives retains something of the flexibility of the Goo depending on the shapes and contact surface of the joint.
