I'm building an elevated rail with trestles but I can't figure out how they attach. I have the metal clips, which work but are a pain in the (well, you know)...I also have the trestles with the black plastic inserts...these are the ones I'm trying to use but it seems like something is missing. Anyone want to help this old man out?

what color are the ties on the 027 track? Black or brown?
The metal clips are for the postwar "black tie" 027 track, the "modern" 027 with "brown ties" have a little lip on each side designed for use with those plastic inserts on the modern trestle sets
The holes in the tracks ties should line up with the holes in the plastic inserts. Run a screw through the track ties into the plastic inserts in the trestle. I've used #4 1/2" screws.
I ignore the metal or plastic clips. I just line the trestle up with a tie, drill a very small hole into the trestle through the existing tie hole, and screw the track directly to the trestle with a 1/2 inch #4 track screw.
If you use K-line O27 height track, you can't use the clips anyway, as the tie holes won't line up with the holes in the clips.
