I have the MTH 20-3192-1 Premier Line, Western Maryland Shay #6 that I am having some issues with. It has never been on the track until last night and was bought new in 2005. I have put in a new battery and that works fine but for the life of me I can't get the Water Tank Cover off of Truck 3 to make any adjustments as I can't get to the controls. The instruction manual does not show you or tell you how to remove it. I figured it would be magnetic or sprung but I just can't find the magic release. LOL Any help would be grateful.

I have seen the cast cover expand from the Zinc content and basically be come a press fit. Your suppose to pull up on the reverse light housing if I remember correctly. The one I worked on the housing pulled out/broke. At that point I could get a screw driver under it I think to lift up. But you need to be careful. Examine the cover, if you see small bubbles in the cover under the paint, the zinc has been corroding and expanding and that is your issue. G
I have the same model as you, Photoguy. I appreciate you bringing up the question. I agree, my cover is stuck too.
George, I don't see any small bubbles, but it is probably going the way you described. I can take the screws out from the bottom to change the battery to a BCR. I don't really need to adjust the controls running in DCS mode, so I'm not going to try any harder. I certainly appreciate your input.
That is how it went down for my customer. DCS only, I had to upgrade the board which was damaged. Tough condition if your a conventional operator. G
It is a shame, it is such a beautiful and nice running model!
I am currently running it in conventional mode, but it will be on a DCS track in a week or so. I am in the process of doing the design work on the layout and will hook up my DCS / TMCC command modules here soon.
Yes, I do see bubbles under the top and will just let well enough alone.
Now that I examine mine under better light, I see bubbles too. I'm glad you are getting ready to run yours on DCS!!
