Just got back from an unbelievable train trip to California & saw this new forum. I will post pictures of my N gauge layout that I am building tomorrow.
"HONGZ" stands for HO scale, N scale, G scale, and Z scale.
Post your non-O scale stuff here!

I remember you mentioning that you started in N gauge right before the last York meet. Looking forward to seeing what you have done...and now you have a place to here to show your progress !
You cant go wrong with that Kato track either !

My sons and I built numerous temporary and one permanent layout with "N" gauge Kato Unitrack.
IMHO it is great stuff, very easy to use, and very reliable.
Enjoy!
I have built a couple layouts with Kato N Unitrack - great track, and great locos.
I am using Kato HO track for my On30 line on my O layout.
Very nice Ed! Funny; I came across some of my old N scale stuff from when I only had room for N scale. I set it up on a shelf in my train room With some new Kato track I picked up from Charles Ro yesterday. I'll post some pics on another post.
I've been tempted myself by N scale. My last N scale layout was in the early 1990's. The current tempting factor, is that Kato makes Amtrak Viewliners! Come on Lionel or MTH. Please make some O gauge Amtrak Viewliners. Keep me in 3 Rail O.
Eddie,
The layout looks great. Have fun with it! You picked the right track system.
"...I am building an N gauge layout..."
No you're not. You are building an N SCALE, standard GAUGE layout.
Eddie, how big is your layout?, it looks good!
Looking great, Eddie!!
Yes .... how big is that table?
It really is tempting. KATO has all that N stuff. And, its all made in Japan? Not China?
The table is 10' X 40", & it is 43" high. I love the Kato track. The reason that I went with Kato is that they make a gg1 & a double crossover, & I love the way there track snaps together & comes apart. I also like the block signals.
Kato is great track no doubt!
Are you running an inside loop and an outside loop powered by their own transformers? How does the double crossover work as far as power supply when you switch from one track to the other? I have a 5' X 9' layout and have two double crossovers. I haven't done the wiring yet.
Looking great Eddie!
The double crossover is blocked. When you cross over it you need to have the other power supply powered or the train will stop.

Agreed 100%........
But N Gauge was the common terminology for a long time....not correct but it ain't Jello either....it's gelatin....who calls it Jello??
Eddie, Thanks for the information about the double crossover. I was out in Pittsburgh last week with out my computer and it's too much of a pain to reply from my phone. Your layout looks great. Today I picked up a Tamiya Pin Extractor Tool. It's supposed to fit the Kato plugs and allow you to remove the wire and pin from the connector and allow you to reuse the connector. I was looking for a way to avoid drilling 3/8 - 1/2 inch holes to run the plug through. If this tool works a 3/16 hole should work. The tool is sold by E-flite Part number EFLA215 It sold for $20.00
I tried out the new tool last night. First thing I did was install the smaller diameter tube and plunger. The barrel fits a little snug and took a little effort to get it all the way in, but once it was in the right depth all it took was a push on the plunger and the pin pops right out. Reinstalling the pin is simple and with the help of a small screwdriver to seat it, it was as good as new. I found that by pushing against the edge of a board made it easier to push the barrel into the connector. I give the tool two thumbs up.

I made the mistake of cutting the connector off of our switches. I purchased Kato extension cords so I could use them to replace the butchered cords. But the bottom covers don't come of that easily. I think I rewired one pair of switches. Someday I'll get around to doing the rest. It's been a while since the Kato track was packed away.
I have decided to drill the 1/2" holes. I don't want to cut any wires or take the plugs apart.
