Yep, he'll most likely be controlling everything from an iPad by the time he's 3 .  At 2 years old, I was still sticking forks in wall outlets to see the sparks!  Evolution is a wonderful thing!!!

That's awesome! You might want to put that transformer into a surge protector and show him how to flip the switch, though. With his powers of observation, you might want to keep an eye on the car keys.

Two little ones sure did change the way I enjoyed the hobby.  Now they are grown up, and I am thinking of how to change again for possible future grandchildren.

Only if he gets a job and buys his own iPad.  Don't own one, nor have any interest in the iPad control scheme.  But I was hopeing for more like Cab-1 at 4 and Legacy at 6, but we'll see.

 

He knows how to flip the switch, as he's done that to me in the past with a carpet loop running with a PH180 and TMCC lockon.  He got the surge protector and PH180 turned on while I was still trying to get the locomotive on the track!  Gave daddy quite the shock if you know what I mean.  And he also knows keys are for locks as he always tries to take ours and open the house or car.  He also knows after you open the car door, the same key goes in the ignition...

Wonderful Sinclair, enjoy him when he is young and let him play all he likes. As long as you teach him how to handle the toys properly he will do just fine.

Outstanding. Consider that a license to buy buy buy! haha. My boy is 3.5 and still primarily plays with his wooden Thomas stuff. Runs track through out the house. Its awesome. Sometimes we go to the attic where all dads trains are and I let him play with some HO stuff where he gets frustrated with it. All part of brainwashing him into loving the o gauge.

Smart kid!!  Great story and I hope he maintains his interest.

That Kid is probably gonna figure out how to replace a smoke unit or a board for an engine at age 8. Very Smart Kid, I wouldn't be able to figure anything out.

Encourage your son to enjoy trains. Make the build of your layout a father and son project, and teach him how to respect your trains.

Hopefully he stays into trains. With everything going on around them these days, it is tough for them to focus on any one thing, especially if they have friends.

When my older boy was that age, my basement layout was still HO. He had been given a Snap-On set as a gift, so I got him on of those plastic rerailers to make it easier to put the trains on the track. He was always down there setting them up, taking them off and changing the order of the cars. I just made sure he knew to leave my more expensive equipment alone. He had a blast. I really miss those days.

I always included my son in my hobby. When he was young I let him operate them anytime he wonted and yes we had a few ouch moments but who cares we both had fun.

He is twenty now and in college so it is no surprise his interest has moved on to more pressing things. But, he turned out great and maybe someday after graduation, marriage and a kid or two he will find his way back to our hobby.
