During a casual conversation my wife just asked me when I was going to have another layout operating session?  She went on to say that it sure seemed like it has been a long time since I had one.  I have to explain a little.  My wife is very supportive of my model railroad hobby, but she is not interested in it.  I guess I just thought she tolerated it, but it looks like she enjoys having my friends over and baking cookies and snacks for us.  (I think a couple of my train friends are more attracted to her cookies than my trains.)

She wasn't satisfied with my excuse about wanting to get a few more things done on the layout and is pressing me for a date.  If that wasn't a big enough shock, she wants to know when I'm going to wash the Corvette so we can take a ride?  Since she had knee replacement surgery she hasn't felt that she could get in and out of it yet.

I'm still trying to wipe the grin off my face.

Used to be the Mrs. went to all the train meets with me, even help me set up a few tables.... helped me with the layout a bit, then helped me host a few train get togethers.

Even when I had a few "bandit meets" at the house she would get the beer and pizza.

Now all I say is I am going to have a few guys over to run trains, and she grabs the kids and leaves for the night!

Funny how it all changes.

This is the most interesting comment, for me anyway. My wife decided that she wanted to take our 2004 Corvette convertible out today, in order for her to "learn how to drive it!". We've had lots of 'vetts over the decade, but the last 10 years she has had had no desire to drive it herself.  Guess who is taking what to church tomorrow morning?

I held my last proto-op session in December 2008, and held them for about four years before that.  I'd start the clock at 1:00 PM, and we would run until 7:00 PM.

For the session snacks, the wife would make "nuts and bolts" including extra Cheeze-its, which were a favorite of our late friend Gene.  It was usually accompanied with home made chocolate chip cookies, and during the holidays, homemade Kolackys for all the Czechs that came over.  Since I base my sessions in 1952, having a beer while running the train further sets the mode for a 1952 operating crew.

Just before the run session ended, my wife would order Rosati's pizza, go pick it up, and then there were usually about eight of us around the dining room table, including the wife, telling stories, swapping lies, and laughing ourselves silly.

I'm about four months away from being able to restart the activities, and really looking forward to it.  I know the wife will be.

Regards,

Jerry

Love the replies!!!  Is this hobby fun or what?

I am definitely going to have an operating session soon.  (I don't let my wife intimidate me.)

It is pouring down rain right now, but I will wash the Corvette as soon as it quits.

I do have to get my stone arch bridge far enough along to have the mainline back in operation before we can run trains though.  I like to use my power tools in the driveway and I did mention that it is raining hard.  One good thing though is that my main computer went out yesterday and that has kept me from spending so much time on the forum so I can get more done on the bridge.  I will post pictures soon as I get my main PC replaced.

Thanks for all the great comments.
