I was thinking maybe you can just use a rubber O-ring gasket. They come in many different sizes.

I use the HO scale self-adhesive foam roadway that you can buy at most hobby stores. (Noch, Faller, etc.) It's a nice grey colour, is easy to cut, is just about the correct thickness, and one small pack will give you all the gasket material you will need for a very long time. 

just did this to my Challenger and I used black vinyl tape crazy glued to the funnel, when set I cut it out with  a Xacto knife, works great.
