There is usually some at 465 and Indiana 67; located on the southwest corner of 465 in Indianapolis, Indiana.  The best spot to photograph is in southern Indiana at this really long steel trestle bridge!  The name of that place is escaping me at the moment.

There aren't a lot of "scenic" places around Indianapolis to photograph trains.  I've only lived here about oh 50 years.

In Avon, there is a “new” road, actually bridge that goes over the Avon rail yards.  It is named the Ronald Reagan Parkway.   If you go on the parkway just south of U.S. 36/Rockville Road this bridge is the highest point in all of Hendricks County—that’s not saying much—and you can get awesome train shots.

While not close to Indianapolis…this place is awesome!—way up north about 1.75 hours.

I don’t know if your travels will take you in that direction.

Also, much closer, but still over an hour and one-half from Avon is the Indiana transportation museum located in Noblesville, Indiana.

And also just a little further than Noblesville…

PS:  The most "famous" railway landmark in Avon is referred to as "THE HAUNTED BRIDGE."  It is west of the main-rail yards by about one-quarter of a mile.

This landmark is on the town's official insignia including the police department's shoulder patches.  There are a number of stories as to how this bridge is HAUNTED.

It is tough to get a good picture of it.  It is a little better nowadays because a local park has "opened" a new segment of its property and this area has a road that goes directly underneath this bridge!  Avon/Washington Township Park.

I live about 1.5 miles from the bridge.
