Within then past year I've purchased from an internet auction site a few pieces by Ak-Sar-Ben Hobby Company of Jacksboro, Tennessee.

From the sparse info I've been able to glean from internet searches, AkSarBen seems to have been active during the 1990's producing custom painted series of cars and locomotives. While the items I've seen so far from ArSarBen are N and HO gauge, I'm wondering if this company had also delved into O gauge. What little information there appears to be on the internet is very general and sorely lacking specifics.

If you've had experience with AkSarBen in any scales, I'd appreciate hearing from you, especially info about any specific items and/or series they made available and when.

Thanks.

ogaugeguy,

Back in the 70's,  80's,  and early 90's I was into N scale.  Ak-Sar-Ben was owned and operated by a man named Allan Miller(not the OGR editor-I already asked him).  I believe he started business around 1980 or so.  You are correct that Ak-Sar-Ben specialized in custom/limited run cars and locomotives.  I believe their first big product in n scale were the extensive line of products in both n and ho scale including boxed sets for the 1982(or 1984-Ican't remember) Worlds Fair held in Knoxville, Tennessee.  Those items were either Atlas or Kadee/Micro Trains.  After that,  there were countless limited run cars,  sets of cars and locomotives produced.  I still have a small group of n scale items from my former collection including a boxed of Pennsy  AA sharknose units (both powered) done by Ak-Sar-Ben.  I believe there were only 15 sets made.  I got out of n scale in 1990 or 1991 and I don't recall if Ak-Sar-Ben was still in business.  I do'n believe they ever made anything in o scale.  If you want to contact me privately-use the e-mail address in my profile.  I have more information on the n scale production that I don't want to drag out on this forum since this is primarily for O gauge.

Regards,

Nick
