I’m working on my 671. The e-unit had some less than acceptable wiring so I decided to rewire it. I found a great video on YouTube on exactly that and it helped a lot. I bought new 2 and 4 finger units from Jeff Kane, and have good cloth covered wire, like original. The problem I’m having is putting the drum back in without the special third hand tool used in the video. It’d be about $70+ to buy, and I can’t see it being used more than twice. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to put in the drum without the third hand?

been meaning to do a video but mot very good at it.There are some great videos on the tube but one thing I do find helps me is I put a #2 screw thru slot drum rides in to keep pressure on it and it holds sides in. Then I try to finagle the tits. If you don't understand reply and I will try to post some pictures.
Actually I understand that, great suggestion. Unfortunately I'm going to be away from my trains for about a week, so I'll update this thread when I return.
Thank you very much.
Thanks for the link. I had not seen that one. It’s exactly what I needed.
To close out this thread, I continued to have difficulty with replacing the drum so I thought that I better buy a new one if I’m going to do this because I don’t want to do it for another 70 years. I was concerned that I may have malformed the tiny plastic teeth by holding them too hard with my pliers. After I got it I fired up the video from @Craftech and had it playing as I worked on it. Within 10 minutes I had it! The unit did pass the test shown at the end of the video. In the next week I’ll finish the rewiring I talked about in this thread.
