Just wondering if anyone has come up with an ingenious solution to keep the lanterns from popping off so easily. Sometimes just throwing the switch causes the red/green cover to pop off and I am getting tired of crawling over my layout to put them back on.

I have the same problem. I haven't wanted to glue them, so mine are still loose. Hopefully someone smarter than me has come up with a solution!
Have you tried a little Hobby Tac?

This certainly is one that needs a solution. Hate it when they fall off and get scooped up by the Vacuum cleaner! GACKKKKKK!

Ha! I have done that many times...
We (LHS) use a dot of Aileen's Tacky Glue. For the most part it's worked quite well on our 4X8 figure 8 within an oval. There are four remote switches that work in a random sequence. The layout runs on customer demand daily, 7 days a week.
The lantern covers have stayed on much better.....months, instead of days.
But it's not a final solution. Redo required.
We're open to a better solution....
Yo?......

I have used just a speck of Formula 560 canopy glue applied to the very edge of the lantern with a tooth pick. Unless something knocks into the lantern, they have stayed in place quite well.
Tiny dab of clear silicone no problems 5 years now.Nick
