Good afternoon everyone,

I purchased a radio station tower from Rich at this past York. Once again Rich & company have knocked it out of the park with this kit. The instructions and photo's are so well done. To be honest the photo's were so good I really didn't need the instructions. I was able to complete this tower in two half day's which equals one day. Even with the background building I'm able to complete it in two half days. Here's a few photo's of the tower on my workbench and on the layout. After I put the tower on my layout I stood back to take a look, the tower added so much character to the layout.

NOTE: when gluing the lights and wire's to the inside corner of the tower, use some INSTA-SET, the wire's will set instantly

it made that part of the job much much easier.

Thanks, Alex

          WELL DONE RICH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I completely agree with Alex's review of this kit.  I bought one at York, too, and it is a great kit.  All top quality parts, excellent illustrated instructions, a real winner.

I won' have a chance to finish building this for a week or so, but I'll post a photo when I place it on thelayout.

Kudos to Rich for an excellent product.

Yes, nice job, Rich. BTW, Alex, where did you put the building, or are you going to mod it into something else?

Yes, very nice kit, Rich. BTW, Alex, are you planning to add the building to the toiwer site or will you be modding it into something else? Also. did you give thought to possibly enhancing the tower further by adding microwave dishes or even cell phone transmitter/receiver units to it?

Folks,

I picked one up at York and finally got around to start building it.  You won't be disappointed with this, very nice quality.  I think this is going to add a nice touch to the layout. I especially like it that they included a sheet of letters so you can come up with your own call letters.   I just wish I had the painting skills that many on this forum have, but I am getting better at it.

Ed ,

To make the painting easier this kit come's in three sections, I painted two red and one white.  Ed I wish I would have run into you at York, if you go in October I'd like to meet you and we can talk some trains.

Alex

Thanks guys,

Kenn,

We plan to be at the fall York, not sure of other shows before then, we continue to offer these and other products on our web site.

On the tower placement, Jon is correct that most AM towers are located in low or swampy areas to have better ground conductivity. FM towers are often on high locations such as a mountain to, and the FM antenna is actually a small antenna mounted near the top of the tower, were in AM the tower is the antenna.

However, there are many AM sites that are on the top of mountains. WTIC-AM in Hartford CT is located on Avon mountain, and WENE in Binghamton NY is an AM also located on a mountain top. So while it is not as common as a low area, locating an AM on a high area of your layout would be prototypical.
