"HONGZ" stands for HO scale, N scale, G scale, and Z scale.

Post your non-O scale stuff here!

The wife's grandsons are no longer interested in the N gauge/scale 8 x 12 layout they built with their father twenty years ago and they need the room. There has not been power to the track for twenty years that I know of.  I do not know how many engines or pieces of rolling stock they have.  There is a model railroad store within five miles of them.  If the grandsons were to remove everything from the tracks, put it in a cardboard box and walk into the hobby store with it, what kind of price should they expect to be offered?  Fifty cents per car and five dollars per locomotive?  Higher?  Lower?  Is there a wide spread depending on the manufacturer?   Thank you, John in Lansing, ILL

I really think it is going to depend on the models they would be bringing in.  I would presume if nothing has been operated in 20 plus years the locomotives would most likely be DC only.  There could be some gems in the mix, or a bunch of entry level locomotives.  Any way to provide a listing of items they are looking to sell to better gauge expectations?

^^^ what he said.

In addition, the value of the cars depends on whether or not they have Kadee (or similar) couplers - cars with the old Rapido couplers are virtually worthless to a reseller.  Old engines probably need to be cleaned and serviced, which further decreases their value.
