I finally have gotten the first of three levels I have been planning for over a year up and running. I call my rail system the Learning Curve Railroad. It is loosely based on the Elbante central layout. My space is roughly 11’6”x 6’6”. I have been a seasonal model railroader most my life and since being semi-retired from carpentry and having a working knowledge in the electronic assembly and operations field for a number of years I now have the time to combine the two together. I have complicated this layout on purpose for the reason of obtaining a solid feel of the workings of a permanent railway in my basement that I will be framing out next year. I have repurposed a workspace that was my computer desk  I built a year ago. I decided I wanted to run a couple of my old trains and set up a figure 8 with 4 switches and a siding. In about 4 months I had taken over the entire bench, a month later I was expanding the entire workspace, making purchases and designing a basement takeover!! I felt the need to put as much as I can into this operation to get as many regrets, mistakes and hurdles in my past accomplishments to make the “real” layout a smooth transition. I have tapped into these forums and wealth of talent and information in them to gain the confidence in applying my love of trains to my creative talents and abilities. I have included some photos of the very first to the most recent. It is not meant to be landscaped or designed to include a proper amount of scenic community. That’s for the future layout.

To PRR1950,
It certainly has evolved and I had to halt any other expansion if I were to get it up and running in order to learn these basic building technique's. I have just detailed a framing schedule for the basement which defines the space I will have for the more well planned railway. Next year, I’m hoping!

I updated the photo uploads so they should be viewable now.
