For the past several months  I've been focused on building a highly freelanced Tyrone, PA scene.  While the buildings and scene elements require further work I thought some may find seeing the progress interesting.

With reach issues, to facilitate construction and maintenance the town is comprised of 12 slide-in sidewalk/building base modules (most with 2-3 buildings on them).   I glued 1/8" Masonite sheets to the 3/4" plywood base to provide a  smooth surface for the building modules and roads.   The roads were spray painted (outside) with Rustoliem dark gray multicolor texture paint.  Aligning pins position the modules on the layout, and in turn the removable buildings are positioned on the modules using short pieces of 3/8" stripwood.  Please ignore the ATSF logo on the Athearn HO water tank - it will be repainted with the town name on it.   What I didn't consider at the start of the town project is how many more automobiles I'm going to need.

Whoa, talk about raising the bar for all of us, Ed. That's a fabulous and impressive town scene. Your creation is the ultimate for everyone who sees it to strive to achieve! You're a truly gifted artistic modeler. Love everything about what you've accomplished. The selection of scenery with the vast rolling hills, the varied buildings and their placement, the size of the streets, and the numerous details such as lampposts, parking meters, etc. together make it ultra realistic and pleasing to the eyes of the beholder. It's a truly magnificent. and exquisite layout that, imho, on par with the professionalism of TW TrainWorx displays! Congrats, Ed!!!!!!!!!

Btw, who sells those parking meters?

Ed,  thanks for sharing the photos and details.   I am in the middle of weathering my MTH station in colors similar to your photos and plan to build a curved platform under it where I installed some 60 inch radius curves.  So it's really timely to see your station this AM.  All the photos of your town show amazing attention to detail and look exceptionally realistic.

Ed, Your Tyrone looks excellent, to say the least!!  Buildings, sidewalks, lamp posts, parking meters, mailboxes.....As you said, you will need quite a few vehicles; and people to top it all off.  The rest of your layout in the background looks exceptionally good as well!!  I really like everything!!!

Now about Photograph number two!  What are you going to do to keep Gulliver in line???

MOED327. The building base modules were fabricated using1/8" tempered  hardboard purchased at Home Depot  (tempered on both sides).   I did not find it necessary to stiffen the base as in most of the level town scene they lay flat on the hardboard street sub-base.  I pulled up the modules this morning to weather the sidewalk and paint the no parking curbs at fire hydrant locations. I'll take a few pictures to illustrate the relationship of the road base, building module/sidewalk base, and the locating pins (cut 8 penny nails).

Here are some photos  of the modules and their relationship to the roadway I took moments ago.  With the removable modules it's relatively easy to clear an area for detailing.  Next task at hand will be to weather the road.    The tree line which currently stops near the diner will continue behind the town.  Later this winter I'll host a tree making party - the raw materials being dried golden rod, floral tape, diluted white glue, and various colors of ground foam.  While individually the trees don't look great, densely planted they make a pretty good looking forest.
