Figured I post a question yet again regarding a problem I've run into many times...unfortunately. Just got a brand new engine, and as soon as I placed it on the rails and applied power to the track, the sound started up. I know from past experience that the TMCC wouldn't  respond, and of course that was the case yet again (this is about the tenth time this has happened over the years). I always end up having to ship the the unit back for exchange/repairs (more time and money down the drain), but figured before I call the dealer for an RA, I'd post the problem to see if anyone has a solution. FYI, all my other TMCC/Legacy controlled engines are working just fine. Any ideas/comments would be greatly appreciated.

On the other loco's that operate as they should I'm curious to know of them,which one's were returned for repair and did any return with the problem explained? I've had to literally disassemble the complete ckt.board and just by doing that must have cleaned/insured a better connection. Happen to me twice with older units and my new in box rs11. Maybe try first although I know you shouldn't have to open/diagnose a brand new anything. I have postwar 2355, take off the shelf run,repeat....

I know most common thing most techs suggest is to reseat all the modules in the engine in question which involves take the engine  apart, and there are many post on the forum to tell you  how to do that Alex M for instance he repairs Lionel and is very good and post videos on here how to take them apart and put them back together!  many times just reseating the modules brings the engine back to life!

THE ONLY THING I DONT UNDERTSAND MANY PEOPLE LIKE YOU ASK A QUESTION ABOUT YOUR ENGINE BUT DON'T GIVE US THE MODEL OR ITEM NUMBER TO HELP YOU!

Item number is 1933362...Ex Rdg GP-35 patched out into Conrail. Just released by Lionel. Have had this identical issue with many brand new releases.

Yes, I know I can ship it back, and I'm sure that's what I'll end up doing. And yeah, that's another shipping fee plus a big waste of my time not to mention risk of loss or damage in shipping.

Dave, I did fiddle with that switch as per your suggestion, and thanks for taking the time to provide a helpful response.

My goal was to get some input regarding the same problem which keeps happening with all kinds of different Lionel engines for quite a few years and I think the model number is probably irrelevant to this problem. But now ya got it guys, so lets see what you can come up with that may actually be helpful here.

Yes, it runs in conventional, and the direction changes with interruptions in the power, and the horn responds to the transformer horn/whistle button as well.

I suspect your answer may be correct, but in the past, I used to take the shell off, push the boards together or completely reseat them and that never seemed to work. I've just gotten so many engines like this over the years, there has to be some  repeated problem that is causing this.
