I own an unpowered Legacy WP F-3 6-38710.  The unit is 9 years old but has very little run time maybe less than an hour.  I ran it at Christmas and noticed it was not smoking.  The fan was going but it wasn't hot enough to smoke so I turned the smoke off and set it aside intending to work on it later.  Two days ago, I put it on the track and on the first loop everything was fine except the coupler would not fire .  Then the headlight went out.  Finally, it seemed to be smoking but that was because the electronics were fried. I then looked up the parts from big L.  The parts are not available.  I heard about this and now I am a victim.  It seems to me that since Legacy locos are still being produced other engine parts would substitute. Does anyone have suggestions?  Secondly, what caused this?  I intend to pull off the body but it sounds that the mother board failed however the smoke unit is probably needs work.  Your help is appreciated.  Thanks Art

Where did you get the idea that parts weren't available?

Western Pacific LEGACY Non-Powered Scale F-3 A-Unit Diesel #801-A - 6-38710

The board that controls everything is listed as in stock.

RCMC / RECEIVER / DRIVER / F-3 A / 6-38710 - 691RCMC252/ B REV

The smoke unit is a simple dumb smoke unit with an 8 ohm resistor.  The resistor, motor, impeller, and wick material can all be replaced to restore full function if they're damaged.
