Lionel 101/104 Bridge Width - A Bit Close | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

I am considering using 3 Lionel 104 bridge spans as pictured below, but probably with taller supports and and a lower base. The inside width is only 5", which I consider a bit close for engines such as my 392E. I am considering shimming out the green sides about 1/4" or more on each side. Am I being silly, or is this a good idea? I don't want to go to the trouble if I am not likely to have a problem. I think my biggest concern is that someone, someday may want to run their special engine on my layout and the bridge may be too narrow.

If that’s what it takes, go for it. They’re not particularly rare.

By all means. If you think 392 and 400s are wide, put a 381 on that track!
