I am not allowed to discuss what is in the new catalog till Wed. so please don't ask me too. Thanks Charlie....

So, it's Thursday. Where is the catalog? How do I find it on your website?

When I orginally posted this thread I did not see the catalog until the next day for the first time. Usally we do have some new preview engine. The big news is the roll out of the LCS line and that is the main focus. You are correct and it does say 2013 on it. This tablet based control system is ready for it's big roll out. As soon as we get the download from Lionel, we will post it along with the pre-order pricing.

guess you missed that post yesterday morning.

6-page threads can be tough to follow... But back a page or two you'll see Charlie received word from Lionel that they delayed the website launch of their catalog until Friday.

Many shops now have the paper catalog... so word is out as to what's inside.  Check out the pre-order section of Charlie's website... they've got some stuff online already.  Or just read this thread.

Thanks very much for your post and information. I hope you're right, but the ModelTrainStuff photo is off-color as well, if it's the one I looked at. The orange in that picture is far different from the correct one (shown in a photo at the Great Northern Railway Historical Society site). I'd love to see the actual Lionel engine, or maybe a photo taken in natural light.

I took two pictures of mine, one inside and one outside in natural light. The one I took inside with a flash pretty much looked like the one yo have seen before. But the ones taken outside look just like the real engines in all of my books.

If they make more orange/green versions in new numbers I am buying them. They look good don't let those pictures from before fool you. There is a good picture of one on Model Train stuffs web site.

"Your My Boy Blue"!  Looks like we are taking this one "around the layout" again!  I posted a pic of the Lionel GP9 outside back in this old post about this subject.  Breeze, you can go back and see it there.

I asked, and the cab numbers are the same as in the last catalog of GN GP35's.

I'm also excited about the MOPAC's in this catalog....

This is what only 10 years of weathering did to original MOPAC Blue:

"The new standard was to be more economic and durable, but 10-years of weathering turned some engines a washed-out blue, a "pastel" blue, or even oxidized with a purple-cast to some engines."

Some people need to realize the effect of weathering on the pictures they look at...

The odd thing about the top photo is the lettering appears to have the correct shade of orange (in comparison to the GNRHS photo), whereas the orange block stripes in the top photo are almost more red than orange.

Definitely need to see the real model as delivered.

The lettering on GN locomotives was the same color as the stripes.

Colors in that photo are far more saturated then what is shown in the catalog..

Orange is more orange.

Notice the horns on the GN are placed at the rear not on the hood.

BTW, Lionel is showing the GN and all the others already in stock for delivery.

Here's the link to Charlie's (Nassau Hobby Center) Lionel Catalog Page.

I see about 22 items total on the two pages.  Don't know if that's correct or not.

It's up to 24 items on the Nassau Hobby website.

New here, Nassau Hobby IT Guy.

Ok, uploading the Fall 2013 Catalog is still a work in progress.  I have no digital resources yet so the process is slow.  As you have heard Lionel's site is having technical difficulties at the moment.  I am going through the catalog page by page and adding the products one by one.  On the GP35s now.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

Only pictures available are the ones from the catalog right now.

So here's a somewhat off-topic personal question, perhaps directed at those who have more insight about Lionel production and shipping "norms":

I saw an engine I wanted to order in the 2013 Signature catalog (Chessie GP-35), but was not in a position to preorder it at the time. At the end of June, I saw that it was "in stock" at Charles Ro and ordered it.  I was then informed it was actually out-of-stock, and it continues to be "on backorder".

So my question is, am I eventually going to get this engine, or have I missed out?  Does its presence or absence in this new catalog provide the answer?

I ask because I've never ordered a new locomotive, and ALL FIVE of the freight cars I've preordered over the last few years have been cancelled before production.

if Charles ro said it is back ordered then they are trying to get it.  go to the lionel shipping page and see if it is still there.

sorry, if you would have given the 6- number I would have looked for you.

For all practical purposes, the Lionel shipping schedule is completely useless for this type of thing.  It's even useless for it's originally intended purpose, but that's an entirely OTHER story which will hopefully improve over time.  We can only hope.

Best bet is to call Ro and stay in touch with their customer service folks.  It's possible Lionel still has stock in NC for your item, and Ro deals directly with Lionel.

Hang in there!!!

David

Thanks, guys.  It's 6-38796, but it doesn't come up on the shipping schedule.  Of course, searching on the general terms "GP-35" and "GP35" yields nothing but a Great Northern freight set, so I just chalked it up to the general crappiness of the shipping schedule.

It's a popular road name, so logic suggests a sell-thru of one production run would trigger an additional one... but predicting Lionel's product decisions is impossible.

Didn't mean to derail the thread--just wondering what to expect, as I'm currently 0/5 in getting stuff from the catalogs.

My dealer has it in stock.

If I remember its $419+ shipping

Email me if you want it.

Not to take away from Charlie's business, but if he doesn't have this model Model trainstuff.com has one in stock.

I do preorder most of my trains from Charles Ro. Soon after the announcements I place my order for what I want. This spring I ordered 2- SD40-2, 1 - GP9 & 1 - GP35. I received 3 of them shortly after I had placed my order. The strange thing was that I received 1 each of the SD40-2, GP9, GP35. I started wondering where the other SD40-2 was, so I looked at the pages of my order that I placed. It was then I noticed that Charles Ro had the Chessie SD40-2 listed with the correct product # but it was listed as a SD70ACE. So I contacted them about it and they said it was their mistake. But I did not receive engine until about 2 months later.

Indeed. It would be nice if someone posted a decent picture of the real model. It's gotten really tough in the many parts of the country where there are now no dealers available to see things (I'm quite sure no one in Texas or the surrounding 4 states would have a GN GP35 in stock, for example).

You have to order and take your chances, and if the item isn't right, you end up selling it and taking a beating. Been there, done that many times now, and it's gotten real old.
Really appreciate folks taking the time to post photos on the Forum. That's the only way many of us have of seeing what these items look like.

Breeze,

I understand not having a local dealer. I am up here in McKinney - maybe we can meet up sometime when I am down in Dallas and you can see my Great Northern GP-35's.

Bummer about the Mopac units. I would buy all 3 but they used the same numbers as Atlas did (603 powered & 611 non powered) and I already have those. The only thing wrong with the Atlas units are that they used Missouri Pacific Buzz saw logos on the cab. They should of been Texas & Pacific Buzz saws. 600-612 or so were T&P - Don't have my book handy). Any chance Lionel got that right I cant see in the tiny pictures. I guess maybe 607 only, unless I feel like changing numbers.

Blue

On a side note here.

I bought a Burlington GP35 to use in pooling service with my Great Northern units after seeing Bob's photos from another post. All I can say is "WOW" Very nice. This weekend maybe I can get outside and take a picture of these units for you Breeze.

I feel another Burlington unit in my future

This has to go down as one of the most confused and convoluted threads I have ever read here. Six pages over a catalog that has yet to come out in a final form? To date I have yet to see anything new from Lionel except the same old variations on a theme. Yawn..the reissue of Twinkies is more impressive.Seems to me if anyone came out with new models of any new prototypes, they'd sell like hotcakes, based on the loopy frenzy demonstrated here over leftovers.

The lettering on GN locomotives was the same color as the stripes.

Rusty

Actually the lettering on the side of the GP35's are yellow, not orange. Same color as the pin striping on the GP9's. However of course there is no pin striping on the GP35's (prototypical)

I have been to the website page three times and still cannot find it.

Perhaps its old age.

From an earlier posting:

Lionel Fall 2013 Catalog will be back up tomorrow per Lionel's request.

Honestly, I don't understand all Lionel's cloak and dagger stuff.  The catalog has been under the sieve of security for the past two days.

If it's a ho-hum catalog as many seem to be reporting, keeping it a "secret" isn't going to make it any better.
