I have a Lionel S2 on a display unit that allows it to be operated on a short track. I’m using a RailKing Z-1000 transformer to control the engine. The whistle and bell both operate and the engine runs in reverse quite well. However, I am having trouble getting it to run forward. The two times that I have managed to switch it into forward motion, it quits running after I increase the power on the transformer. In reverse, it will move as fast as I want. What am I doing wrong? Or, is there an issue with the unit?

Try doing an engine reset with your cab1 or legacy system. Instructions are in your manual. If you dont have either I am not sure what to do
Unless he's added it, this is not a TMCC unit. It's from around 1992, I believe.

1991. I’m running it as though it is a conventional engine.
There were two problems, 1) the wire, that determines whether or not the engine’s direction can be reversed, was not inserted properly in the socket. 2) the display track doesn’t seem to be able to reliably reverse the engine’s direction. After getting the reversal unit wire securely installed, I was able to run the engine on a 12 x 12 oval, reversing it several times. Back on the display track, it reverted to the same problems.

Does anyone have the instructions for positioning the jumper in the engine cab?
