Thanks Lee, one more question...was not there a poor running GG-1 that came out in one of these types of sets?
That's the one I am trying to avoid.
I think one of the GG1's tended to overheat. Not sure which one but I think it was the first set produced. Maybe someone else can weigh in on this. Lionel had a solution for the problem and was able to correct the issue.
I don't know about the set numbers but there were a lot of Conventional Classics GG-1's that made it to the market with dry gearboxes - no lubrication at all. There were quite a few posts on this forum about the problem. I would check any Lionel GG-1 made in the past several years for lubrication before running it.
