I just received my Lionel 6-62283 Die Cast Metal Bumpers and I’m having difficulties get them to light. I’m also having trouble getting them to mount on the track which might be the reason the lights don’t work.

Ok so I have 27” dia curved track at each end of my trolley line and I suspect that the curve is what’s giving me the problem. Can I connect these things on a curve and can it go at the very end of the track or does it have to be before the last tie? The tie seems to be holding it up too high and the screw doesn’t quite make it in to the rail.

You could try that; another option is to cut the last section of curve track just behind the last visible tie before the bumper, then put in a custom-cut short straight piece that is the same length as the bumper with pins to connect to the curve piece.  The difference in location of the bumper to where it is now would be negligible.

So some neighbors stopped by and as I was showing them the trolley one bumper lit up as soon as the trolley hit it. It went out again, but lit up and stayed lit the next time it got hit. The other side will not operate no matter what and I may have to check it off the track to see if maybe it’s the bulb.

The one thing different between the two curves is that one turns to the right and the other to the left. The one to the right is the one that does not work and has the worst problem with the tie being in the way of the back screw.

Check the things above in Redonionite's post first.

I know you have tubular track, but I am using these with Atlas-O track and they work fine with a little fiddling when installing them. There is a metal tab in the bottom center of the bumper that must touch the center rail for power. I had to do a little fiddling to get everything to touch properly.

If light bulb is good and you have power, try looking to see if that tab is contacting the center rail. I think these have bayonet bulbs if I remember right. They could have been loosened up in shipping? I changed mine to LED bulbs and it also seems like I had to wiggle and fiddle with a couple of them to get the bulbs to work again after changing.

Just saw your last post, the set screws have to be almost all the way down for the center tab to make contact. That's where I had trouble with the Atlas track and it required fiddling.

Thanks Rob, I pulled the track out after seeing your post and looked at the end of the track with the bumper still installed. And sure enough the tie is keeping the middle contact from making contact with the center rail.

I think the reason the other bumper is working is because I didn't have the screw tight and the trolley knocked it back off the tie and it made contact.

OK PROBLEM SOLVED!!

So I knocked the tie farther down the rails with a heavy screw driver until the tabs on the bumper dropped down to the bottom of the rails and tightened the screw. It works perfectly now.

I may still have to do the same on the other end because even though it is working, its not as bright as the one I just did. plus it has a slight flicker.
