Merry Christmas to me.
I was looking for one of these for a while. Then, all of a sudden, (3) show up for sale. I picked the NIB one. Now my Phase IV Superliners have a decent engine to pull them. It had to be Lionel, I have no provisions to run MTH.

6-28230. Cab #505. Amtrak Dash-8.

I rode the Southwest Chief the first year the Dash 8-32BWH arrived in the original "Pepsi Can" scheme in 1991.  I liked that paint scheme a lot and it lasted even when the first Superliner II's arrived in 1993 as the first Phase IV painted cars until the Phase IV scheme became the official phase scheme sometime around 1996.  Last time I saw one was at Pittsburgh Union Station in 2014 as emergency power for the Pennsylvanian.

Nice find and a good looking locomotive!  When did Lionel produce that?  It looks a lot more scale than the ones I remember.

My terrible photo of it as it was around midnight when my already very late Capitol Limited arrived.

Thank you Jonathan for the memories and pics. The engine was issued in 2004. I agree, they look pretty good. I think they came on the scene and then disappeared just as quickly.
There was never a dummy that I could find, just (3) powered units. It runs smooth after an initial oil and grease.
With the demise of MTH, maybe Lionel and of course 3rd Rail pick up the slack of more current Amtrak motive power.
