Finally they came in. I'm thinking of (eventually) getting DL&W 565 and relettering it to Black River & Western. 565 was Black River's first steam engine before they moved to Ringoes on the Flemington Branch.
I just received my mogul, (DLW 565), the features include a "Fan driven smoke unit" and I believe it. The smoke unit fan is loud to the point that it is distracting. At first I wasn't sure but after turning off the smoke unit the noise immediately stopped also.
Has anyone else had this issue?

On other Lionel steamers, yes. I have a heavy Mike that both the stack and whistle fans are very loud. The whistle is so bad I have a two tone whistle, the fan is so high pitched.

What do you do to fix this problem?
Received mine (Grand Trunk) and ran it today with, thankfully, no problems. My only disappointment is that there was no smoke fluid included in the Styrofoam packing. Is this normal with Lionel now or did someone just forget to put it in the box ?
I'm also curious if anyone has tried to install the dummy coupler on the front. I did on mine and it does NOT fit.......

Turned it off. Not what you wanted to hear, is it? Once my layout is actually is a state to allow running of trains, I might look into it more. I'm guessing something is rubbing, hopefully something as easy as the impeller rubbing extra gasket.

I will once I have mine. I have found on some other locomotives that paint layers are thick enough to get in the way, so I've had to do some shaving to get them to fit. I also had to drill a hole out once I think. I'm still unhappy the 2-8-0 didn't have one as I like double heading my steamers and it looks silly for it to be in front of my 4-6-0.

Mine doesn't make any noise that I can hear, smokes very well.
