I don't want to spoil the suspense and the guessing but....
My father and his brother had a band in NY City in the 1940's and 1950's.
They used to cross paths with this band when they played weddings etc at hotels in NYC such as the Pennsylvania hotel in Manhattan. When I visited Madison Hardware with my father in the 1960's he and Karl used to have some animated conversations about the good old days. Did it help me get special treatment at Madison Hardware? No.
