Depends on the product number. The latest catalogued is Legacy. I dont think they shipped yet. TMCC versions are available.
I have one and it is one of my all time favorites. The functions and sounds are fantastic!
One of the coolest Lionel ever made.
It's one of my favorites as well.
Aww Rudy, you're biased.
But I have the Pennsy set and it's great in every way.
The only beef I have is the outriggers get stuck and will not stay retracted on the crane.
Also some have steam whistles and some have diesel horns for signals. Would be nice to have known which had which before I purchased.
Otherwise they are an engineering wonder...
I agree with J Daddy, my major complaint is the outriggers. It took a lot of fiddling to get them to work, and even now one will get stuck at times.
Other than that minor nit, it's a fantastic accessory, but don't turn it upside down without supporting the boom and keeping the string tight! Don't ask me how I know that.
I have the PRR crane and boom tender, it works and sounds great. I also have a problem with 1 of the outriggers but that it ok. The PRR is tough to find if I understand correctly. I got a couple of PRR MOW cars from Atlas and have made a nice Pennsy work train.
I have the NYC version. Lionel knocked it out of the park with these!

I have a Steam MOW set and I love it.
I bought a TMCC command set for this set, I already had a base hooked up to DCS for the engines.
This is the most fun of all my units, screw a eyelet into anything and put it on the train. (weight limits do exist)
KIDS LOVE THESE.
The crane car is one the coolest things Big L has produced. Wouldn't I love a Boston and Maine version. I'd even spring for the Legacy setup to go with it!
I have a Lionel #2560 crane that was handed down to me from my Dad. That makes it a legacy, doesn't it?
I have the BN steam version, and the SF diesel version, and run them both with Legacy/Cab-2.
Best accessory ever! Also a crowd (guests) favorite.
Alex
I like mine a lot. Play with it often. Its fun.
On all of my engines, I have the crew-talk shut off. Not with my boom car ... I get a kick out of the guys talking.
